It is similar in that clients pay a set monthly fee. But with the MVP program, 100% the client's monthly fee is applied towards tangible production deliverables. This increases transparency and minimizes guesswork, especially when clients try to allocate their scarce marketing budget. The MVP program rewards them for planning ahead.
You have to be careful about using the term "retainer," because it may have a negative connotation (we've all bad experiences with them) and/or they may be too difficult to execute if the client's legal and finance department have to get involved.
